Be sure to come in using highway 95, not 50. HW 95 offers a few minutes of paved road to the entrance. If you are traveling on 50, don't be beguiled by the marker pointing to Ft Churchill. But you really can't help yourself, you can and drive an hour or more through the sagebrush on dirt road. Been there, done that.
As of September 2017, the campsite is closed.

Took Hwy. 50 along the dirt road to & from. The dirt road is well maintained, the views of the Carson River are beautiful.
I saw so many historical buildings and tools. I went on the tour to see the buildings and while hiking the tour guide gave us puzzle pieces to help learn through picture. I loved this hike!
